Bucharest M6 Metro Project: TBM Commenced Excavation Works with a Ceremony Held on April 9, 2025

The tunnel excavation between 1 Mai and Tokyo Stations, part of Lot 1.1 of the Bucharest M6 Metro Project, was successfully launched on April 9, 2025, using the TBM (St. Maria). This major milestone stands as a tangible indicator of the project's steady progress.

The St. Maria TBM will carry out the 6.6 km tunnel excavation between the 1 Mai and Tokyo stations. Weighing 600 tons and equipped with a 6.6-meter cutterhead diameter, the TBM has the capacity to excavate continuously 24 hours a day at a rate of 1.5 meters per hour. With these features, it will significantly accelerate and optimize the tunnel excavation works, which are of critical importance for the project.

This milestone was marked with a ceremony attended by the Prime Minister of Romania, H.E. Ion Marcel Ciolacu; Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, H.E. Sorin Mihai Grindeanu; Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Takashi Katae; Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye, H.E. Özgür Kıvanç Altan; Metrorex General Manager, Ms. Mariana Miclăuș; Chairman of the Board of Alarko Holding, Mr. İzzet Garih; Chairman of the Board of Makyol, Mr. Adnan Çebi; General Manager of Alarko Contracting Group, Mr. Ümit Boran; JICA representatives; representatives of the consulting company; and project team members.

This historic step marks another milestone in the Bucharest M6 Metro Project and reinforces our firm progress toward the set goals. We extend our sincere thanks to all our colleagues and stakeholders who have contributed to the success of the project.
